General Statement:
The Salvation Army, an

Equipment Used:
Computer with Microsoft
Office programs, Finale or Sibelius, general office equipment, musical
instruments, motor vehicle, multi-media equipment, translation equipment,
Divisional sound system.
Qualifications:
An active, uniformed
soldier of The Salvation Army, preferably with a minimum of a BachelorÕs Degree
in Music. Proven ability and
experience in performing, teaching and directing music and gospel arts groups.
Skills:
Ability to motivate others
to learn; knowledge of music theory and application; ability to direct, teach
and train musicians of all proficiency; writing skills; understanding of
Salvation Army mission and philosophy of ministry. An appreciation of the place of music and gospel arts in
meaningful and inspiring public worship.
To be able to face the challenge of balancing the emerging and
contemporary music/worship arts with our traditional brass bands and choral
groups. Ability to work as part of
a team.
Summary of
Responsibility:
To work with the Director of Music and Gospel Arts in providing leadership, direction and creative programming for all phases of music ministry and gospel arts programs. All other duties as assigned by the Director of Music and Gospel Arts.
Definitions of
Responsibilities:
1.
To assist in the
training of various music and gospel arts groups at local Corps (both Junior
and Senior sections). This will be
accomplished by Corps visits, sectional Schools of Music, Music Councils,
seminars and other means.
2.
To assist the
Director of Music and Gospel Arts in the direction and leadership for any music
or gospel arts that should be required for special events such as Camp
meetings, Youth Councils, and other Divisional events. This could include the formation of the
necessary ensembles need to achieve the desired outcome.
3.
To serve as
Assistant Program Director for the Divisional Music Camp and the Divisional
Creative Arts Camp.
4.
To begin and
actively maintain at least 2 Òhands-onÓ weekly Corps music programs for tenure
of 1 year each and to assist those Corps in the recruitment/training of music
leadership to replace the ADMD (by the end of 1 year) and continue the
established programs.
5.
To assist in
maintaining a Divisional Music and Gospel Arts Resource Library (& the
Equipment Resource Room) with fully updated catalogues and help oversee the
distribution of printed materials, multimedia resources, instruments and
related equipment to the Corps for weekly programs.
6.
To assist in
the leadership of the Northwest Brass & Chorus.
7.
To assist in
the building of new Divisional Music and Gospel Arts ensembles such as
Divisional Youth Gospel Choir, Divisional Praise Band, Divisional Drama Team,
Divisional Timbrel Brigade, etc.
8.
To promote
the Western Music Institute, encouraging maximum participation by the musicians
of the Division.
9.
To attend
conferences and events outside the Division as requested and approved by the
Divisional Commander (i.e. Alaska Congress, WMI, Territorial Congress,
Territorial Music Ensembles).
10.
To assist in
the maintaining and operating of Divisional Sound equipment at specified
functions and to adequately train other individuals to set up and operate the
equipment.
11.
To assist in
the design and facilitation of special Divisional meetings and concerts. (i.e.
Christmas Celebration)
12.
To assist in
the formation of a Christmas quartet.
To be a member of the Christmas quartet.
13.
To assist in
monitoring music program statistics and check for accuracy.
14.
To perform
other duties as requested by the Director of Music and Gospel Arts.
Physical Requirements:
Ability
to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or
continuous basis

to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead.
