November 14 - December 19, 2009
Imagine a child waking up on Christmas morning with no brightly wrapped packages to open. No smiling faces and peals of laughter will be heard at the house. You can bring a smile to a child’s face by helping The Salvation Army this Christmas. Families who cannot afford toys for their children come to The Salvation Army to receive gifts through our Toy ‘n’ Joy program.

Volunteers are needed to welcome low-income families and sign them up to receive toys for their children and a holiday meal this Christmas. Volunteers will welcome families from diverse and ethnic back grounds, receive necessary documentation and determine eligibility for Christmas services. Intake will take place November 16-20 and December 7-11 from 9:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. at both the White Center and Pike Street Salvation Army offices. Please contact Lyndsay Buttenob at lynsay.buttenob@usw.salvationarmy.org to volunteer or click here to sign up online.

At your office, church or anyplace there is a Christmas tree, The Salvation Army will send you Christmas tags. Each tag represents a child and includes a gift suggestion. Just before Christmas, The Salvation Army will arrange to pick up the toys and parents will have the opportunity to shop for gifts for their children at our Toy ‘n’ Joy Distribution at Qwest Field. Please call Brandie Sargent at (206) 767-3150 extension #110 to sign up. MAP FOR TOY DROP OFF AT QWEST FIELD CENTER

December 22-23, 2009
Toys are distributed to over 3,000 families by volunteer “elves.” Families are greeted and a volunteer “elf” helps them “shop” in the Toy ‘n’ Joy shop for their children; families also receive a holiday meal gift card. We need 100 volunteers for two (am/pm) shifts each day, for a total of nearly 400 volunteers. To sign up online to help out this Christmas click here. Families experiencing particularly difficult circumstances are available to be adopted. In our Adopt-A-Family program, donors provide gifts for all family members and food for a Christmas dinner. Many families of all sizes are available for adoption and sponsors will be matched with a family based on the designated support level and family needs. Please call Kathy Sargent at (206) 767-3150 extension #103 or (206) 409-7611 to be matched with a family.
